Mount Olive 20th After First Round Of NCAA II Men's Golf South/Southeast Regional

Mount Olive is 20th place after the first round of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/Southeast Regional Monday at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. The nationally 24th-ranked Trojans carded a team score of 316.

Starting on the 10th hole, Kyle Simpson overcame a 41 on his front nine (10th-18th holes) with an even-par 36 on the back nine to tie for 60th out of 108 golfers with a 77. Mark O'Hara birdied the par-3 eighth hole (17th hole of play) and is tied for 71st with a 41-37. Jesus Valderamma (41-38—79) is tied for 82nd, Sebastian Andersen (40-42—82) is tied for 100th and Dalton Gore (42-43—85) is 106th.

Barry (Fla.) is the first round leader in the 20-team tournament with a 284, followed by Nova Southeastern (Fla.) at 287 and Lynn (Fla.) at 288. The top seven teams advance to the National Finals in Hershey, Pa. USC Aiken is in seventh place after the first round with a 295.

The Trojans have a 7:30 a.m. tee time Tuesday and will start from the first tee. The 54-hole tournament concludes Wednesday.
