UNC Pembroke Remains In Winner's Bracket With 6-2 Victory Over Catawba

Mount Olive, N.C. --- A two-out bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the No. 5 seed University of North Carolina Pembroke earned a 6-2 victory over fourth-seeded Catawba College in game three of the 2017 NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast Regional at Scarborough Field in Mount Olive, North Carolina.

· UNC Pembroke jumped on the board first in the top of the first inning on a RBI double to left center by Nick Debo.
· Catawba answered the Braves with a run of its own in the bottom half of the first on a RBI double to left field by Kyle Smith.
· The Braves pushed back in front of Catawba in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer over the left centerfield fence that gave UNCP a 3-1 advantage.
· Catawba got back within a run at 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Nick Coble.
· In the top of the eighth, the Braves broke the game open on a two-out bases-clearing, three-run double to right center field by Drew Beaver that provided UNCP with a 6-2 lead.
· UNCP pitcher Anthony Burke finished off his complete-game victory by sitting Catawba down in order in the bottom of the ninth to keep the Braves in the winner's bracket.


· Burke pitched a complete nine innings, earning the victory, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and striking out five.
· Beaver led the way for UNCP with three RBI, while Buffkin recorded a pair of RBI in the win.


UNC Pembroke advances to take on top-seeded Mount Olive on Friday at 3 p.m., while Catawba will get the day off on Friday and will play on Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of tomorrow's Georgia College-Lincoln Memorial contest.
