No. 1 Mount Olive Selected To Host 2017 NCAA DII Southeast Baseball Regional Tournament

The No. 1 ranked University of Mount Olive has earned the No. 1 seed and will be the host institution for the 2017 NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast Regional, it was announced by the NCAA Sunday night. Mount Olive will receive the first round bye and will open regional play on Friday at 3 p.m. at Scarborough Field against the winner of the Catawba College and UNC Pembroke contest.

Mount Olive received an automatic bid following a 5-4 win over Belmont Abbey College in the Conference Carolinas Championship game. The Trojans fought off elimination four times to secure their spot in the championship game.

The Trojans had to defeat three different opponents, including Belmont Abbey back-to-back, on their way to winning their 15th Conference Carolinas Championship. Zack Mozingo was named Tournament Most Valuable Player, while Austin Hutchison, German Reyes, Trae Sweeting, and Drew Ellis all joined Mozingo on the All-Tournament team.

The selection to the 2017 southeast regional marks the eighth straight appearance in the Division II tournament for the Trojans and the fifth time Mount Olive has hosted the regional.

Joining the Trojans in the Southeast regional are the second-seeded Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia, the No. three seed USC Aiken Pacers, the fourth-seeded Indians of Catawba College, the fifth-seeded Braves of UNC Pembroke, the No. six seed Georgia College Bobcats, and the No. seven seed Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters.
