UMO Baseball Back To No. 1 In NCAA National Rankings

The University of Mount Olive baseball team was named the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. This is the second time the Trojans have been No. 1 this season.

Mount Olive is currently 37-7 and 22-2 in Conference Carolinas. They are also the top-ranked team in the Southeast Region this week. The Trojans captured the 2017 Conference Carolinas regular season championship this weekend when UMO swept Erskine in a three-game series. The regular season championship is the 15th in program history.

The Trojans this year are ranked inside the top-15 in eight different team statistical categories and 12 different individual categories as of 4/13/2017. UMO is the national leader in shutouts with nine. Two seniors lead the nation in individual categories. Zach Mozingo leads the nation in saves with 10 and Austin Hutchison in victories (10-0). Mount Olive also has the third highest win-loss percentage with a .829 percentage.

In the Conference Carolinas standings, Mount Olive leads the conference in ERA, wins, saves, and fielding percentage.

UMO faces off against Chowan University (20-19, 10-3 CIAA) Tuesday & Wednesday in a non-conference two-game series at Scarborough Field, before taking on Limestone College (22-22, 10-14 CC) this weekend in a three-game series beginning Friday.
