Holley Garcia joins the University of Mount Olive softball staff as the new assistant coach for the 2017-18 season as announced by head coach Mandy Sansbury.
Garcia comes to Mount Olive after serving as the assistant coach at Southern Utah University from 2014-17. Prior to her time at Southern Utah, Holley spent two years at Texas Tech as a graduate assistant and volunteer coach.
Holley helped the Thunderbirds qualify for the Big Sky Conference Tournament all three years while she was an assistant at Southern Utah University.
As a student-athlete at Texas Tech, Garcia, formerly Gentsch, was the primary catcher for the Red Raiders from 2009-12. She appeared in 202 games, ranking her 10th in Texas Tech school history and 2nd among catchers.
Garcia was one of the top defensive catchers in the nation with a .990 fielding percentage throughout her career. In batting, she collected 76 RBI's over four seasons which ranks 12th all-time in Texas Tech school history. She and her team made three NCAA Regional appearances from 2010-12.
Academically, Garcia was a two-time Capital One Academic All-American, a three-time Academic All-Big-12 first team honoree, part of the 2010 Big 12 All-Tournament Team and earned the Big 12 Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship in 2012.
Garcia earned her Bachelor of Arts ('12) and a Master of Arts ('14) in Sociology from Texas Tech. She is married to Blake Garcia, a member of the United States Marine Corps, and the couple has two cats, Lady Pounce and Miss Whiz.
